WordPress.org and WPMU merging ideas

Twitter gave me this nice picture this morning: WordPress and WPMU will be merged, and my head started spinning with tons of ideas around this right away.

Well, I run and host a lot of blogs and websites, using either WordPress or WPMU, and it would be great to use just one WordPress installation to host all of them. – And the luxury to have only one password to remember..

Idea 1: Built in domain mapping

To be able to host several blogs on one WordPress install the software need to have domain mapping built in. This together with the vhost settings (wildcard subdomains) that’s already in WPMU.

This will give a user the option to have blog 2 on sub.domain.tld and blog 3 on otherdomain.tld and so on.

I believe the WordPress MU Domain Mapping would be a very good starting point.
